Around The World Submerged

CANARY ISLANDS

During our transit from St. Peter and St. Paul's Rocks to Cadiz, Spain, we did a quick photo-recon of the breath-taking City of Santa Cruz, shown in this photograph. Santa Cruz is on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Island archipelago. Santa Cruz is a very beautiful and thoroughly modern city. It is the winter resort for many Scandinavians (but we didn't get to see too many.) For you geography buffs, the Canary Islands didn't get their name from little yellow birds. They were named by the Roman scholar Pliny who observed large packs of wild dogs roaming the islands. So he named them Canaria - the Latin word for dogs.
